Call for Abstracts
The Call for Abstracts is your invitation to participate as a speaker or poster presenter at the Guelph09 Conference. The conference theme is Sciences for Sustainability: Soils, Agronomy & Atmosphere. Presentations can be made in one of the three host Societies concurrent speaker sessions, or during the designated poster presentation breaks, as outlined in the conference program . Abstracts are designated as to the presentation catagory themes as layed out in the Abstract Submission Form available below. Submitted abstracts are to follow the Conference Abstract Syllabus, which is within the abstract submission form on the final page. If you are presenting mulitple presentations, either poster and/or oral, you must submit a separate abstract form for each presentation.
All abstracts will be reviewed by a society delegate prior to acceptance for presentation. Accepted presenters will be announced via this website shortly after the submission deadline date. Abstracts will be published in the post Conference proceedings and made available via this website.

Oral Presentation Guidelines
Presentations should be in Microsoft Powerpoint (Office 2003 format preferred). Please bring your presentation on a USB memory stick or a CD. At the beginning of each day, before the speaker sessions, please submit your presentation media to the IT support person in the session room your presentation is taking place. A volunteer will be present in each room to help you load your presentation on the appropriate computer. Please verify with your session chair, at least one (1) hour before your session starts, that presentation has been loaded and for scheduling changes.
Please be sure to CLEARLY identify your CD or USB memory stick with your name & the session in which you are presenting. If your presentation is in another format please confirm this well in advance.
Poster Presentations
Attendees can participate through poster submissions which will be presented each lunch hour during the conference on Wednesday August 5th and Thursday August 6th in PCH level 0, UC. On designated days poster authors will be on-hand to present their poster to those attendees interested. Poster submissions are made through the Abstract Submission Form. Posters must be designated as to society and theme topic as layed out in the submission form and follow the Poster Guidelines layed out below.
Poster Guidelines
Please use the following guidelines and format to prepare your poster:
- The poster MUST NOT exceed 36” high by 48” wide.
- Limit the text to about ¼ to ½ of the poster space, and use images, photographs, and graphs to present your research. Make a banner to display the title, name, and affiliation at top-center of the poster.
- The text should be readable from five feet away. Use a minimum font size of 20 points.
- Lettering for the title should be large (at least 70-point font).
- Use of the following format/sections are suggested :
- Title
- Author names and affiliation
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Materials and methods
- Result/discussion
- Conclusions
- References
With all presentations be aware of colour blindness guidelines.
